Fish oil and its advantage in fighting Breast Cancer

Consumption of fish oil is good for patient of breast cancer according to a study published recently in the journal Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers & Prevention.  U.S. researchers analyzed data on women and found the link between cancer risk and dietary supplements, whether vitamin, mineral or other. A total of 35,016 postmenopausal women free of breast cancer at the time of inclusion, answered a questionnaire about their use of dietary supplements.

The researchers found the risk of breast cancer increased with age, body mass (weight ratio on the square of height), smoking and drinking alcohol, and duration of any hormonal treatment.
The regular consumption of fish oil was associated with a 32% reduction in the risk of breast cancer. This is because the fish oil is rich in omega-3 such as eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). These polyunsaturated fatty acids inhibit certain inflammatory molecules to be produced.

There are more than 200,000 diagnosed breast cancer cases per year and 40,000 or more women who are dead every year. Sad truth is, even the mainstream medical community is still trying hard to find the cure to fight against the disease, and supplements like fish oil will gain wider benefits. In a study reported that women who consume fish oil on a regular basis (counted as 3 or more times per week) were reported to have a 32% reduction in breast cancers.
